WHO WE ARE
Formerly a Victorian school with the adjoining School Masters House, the detached granite and whinstone property was built in 1878 for children of the local estate. It was later used as a village community centre before becoming a family home.
The Old Schoolhouse was our home for thirteen years, both children born and grew up here amongst the constant renovation works. It was great place for children with plenty of space for youngsters and all their stuff! We have many happy memories of our home especially all the large family gatherings at Christmas and special occasions that we were able to host.
Now we are very happy to offer our guests the same cosy and welcoming environment. Peaceful and tranquil, it is a great place to unwind, relax and spend quality time with family, friends and loved ones.
We hope that our guests can create many more happy memories and enjoy the Old Schoolhouse as much as we do.
With far reaching views, guests can experience the sights and sounds of nature, gaze at the black night skies which reveal the dazzling stars and constellations and explore the rural countryside - forests, lochs and beaches.
A true escape to nature, enjoy the surroundings whilst staying in a warm, comfortable home.
Old Schoolhouse is situated on the borders of South Ayrshire and Dumfries & Galloway with plenty of places to explore and visit.
We are in the heart of the UNESCO biosphere which has been internationally recognised as a world class environment for people and nature, and within a designated Dark Skies area of the Galloway Forest Park, recognised for its breath taking and rare stargazing conditions.
There are walks, hikes and cycle trails nearby at the Glentrool Visitor Centre and Kirroughtree Visitor Centre. Culzean Castle is a historical place of interest, with the castle and gardens along with great sandy beaches nearby to explore. Logan Botannic Gardens have been described as Scotland's most exotic garden and Wigtown's official Booktown is an amazing village to explore.
For those wanting a bit of pampering there is Pebbles Spa, or Turnberry Golf Course and Spa facilities. There are swimming pools and leisure facilities in nearby Girvan and Newton Stewart also has a small cinema. House O' Hill is a cozy pub with delicious food just a a ten minute drive away.
